OPERA HOUSE TALKIES.

“THE GAY NINETIES” TO-NIGHT.

The cycle of fashions has returned to the period when the girls were dressed in laces and plumes. As yet they have not been accepted, 'but slowly the pendulum is swinging back to the type of dress expressing the more feminine mood. Already the long gloves have been adopted, along with the long skirts and threequarter length sleeves. The hair is also being worn in chignons in place of in tie boyish bob. The small waistline is also being glimpsed in some of the new styles, as is the bustle and peplum effect. At the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, too, the girls have been wearing plumes in their hats and carrying lacy parasols. In this instance, however,.they were wearing costumes for “The Gay Nineties,” which, as Marion Davies’ newest all-talking picture, will be shown at the Hawera Opera House to-day at 2 p.m., to-night at 8.15 p.m. and finally to-morrow night. From bathing suits to street dresses, from afternoon frocks to elaborate evening gowns, these styles worn by Miss Davies' and her feminine supporting cast reveal lines that are startlingly near the modern vogue. Besides Miss Davies, the cast includes Lawrence Gray, Walter Catlett, Nance O’Neill. Jed Prouty, Sam Hardy, Vivian Oakland and others. Harry Beaumont directed. Reserves may be secured at Miss Blake’s. p
