The Progress left Dunedin on Wednesday and will proceed to New Plymouth, where she is due on Wednesday, via Timaru, Lyttelton and Wellington. (Hooker Bros.). The Totara, with cargo from southern ports, is scheduled to leave Wellington shortly after noon to-day and is due at New Plymouth to-morrow morning. (U.S.S. Co.) The John will load at Dunedin on Saturday for New Plymouth, where she is due on January 30, via Timaru, Lyttelton and Wellington. (Hooker Bros.) The Kaimiro will load at Dunedin next Wednesday for New Plymouth, where she is due about January 28, via Oaniaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington and Nelson. From New Plymouth she will proceed to Westport. (U.S.S. Co.) The Hauturu is due at New Plymouth from Onehunga to-morrow and will return north the same day. (Northern Co.) PAKEHA LEAVES NEW PLYMOUTH. After loading 10,000 boxes of butter, 9000 crates of cheese and 12,000 freight carcases of meat, the Shaw, Savill and Albion vessel Pakeha left New Plymouth last evening for Wanganui. Her loading ports are Wanganui, Lyttelton, Picton and Wellington. She is scheduled to clear Wellington for London, via Panama, on January 30. NORTHUMBERLAND FOR BLUFF. The Union Company advises that the Northumberland, at present loading meat and dairy produce at New Plymouth, is expected to leave this evening for Bluff to continue loading. CARGO FROM AUSTRALIA. The Union Company advises that the Kiwitea was to leave Hobart on Friday for Edithburg, Adelaide and Melbourne to complete loading for Auckland, Portland, New Plymouth, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin and Bluff. PORT FAIRY AT WELLINGTON. The C. and D. Line motor-ship Port Fairy arrived at Wellington on Saturday from Wanganui to continue her Homeward loading. She is to leave Wellington to-day for Napier and Auckland to fill up, and is scheduled to clear the northern port on January 31 for London, via the Panama Canal. The vessel carries cargo from New Plymouth. COMMAND OF BRITANNIC. Beginning his sea career in 1890 as an apprentice in one of the sailing ships owned by Messrs. Gillison and Chadwick, Captain E. L. Trant, latterly in command of the White Star liner Laurentic, has been transferred to the command of the new motor-vessel Britannic, which sailed from Liverpool on her maiden voyage to Boston and New York on June 28. Born in 1874, Captain Trant joined the White Star Line in November, 1898, as a junior officer in the Cufic, at that time engaged in the Liverpool and New York cattle trade. During the war he was chief officer of the armed cruiser Celtic, in which steamer thousands of troops were conveyed across the Atlantic. Since that time Captain Trant has had command of various White Star steamers, the more recent ones being the Cedric, Medic, Runic, Ceramic, Adriatic, Megantic and Laurentic. He had also been assistant commander of the Majestic, where he served under the command of Sir Bertram Hayes. ,The Britannic is the world’s largest cabin motor vessel, has a tonnage of 27,000, and can accommodate 1500 passengers in her cabin, tourist third cabin and third-class accommodation. Captain Trant has been succeeded in command of the Laurentic by Captain J. B. Bulrnan, formerly in command of the Arabic. Captain Bulmau, who was born in the year 1871, joined the White Star Line in 1899 as a junior officer in the Afric. He attained his first command in November, 1921, when he was given the command of the Tropic. Since then he has captained numerous White Star steamers. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
