THE YEARLING SALES
SUCCESSFUL NATIONAL EVENT SLUMP MAY EFFECT THE BUYERS. entries under review. TARANAKI REPRESENTATIVES. (By “Paritutu?’) The fifth annual National Year-' ling’ Sales will be held at Trentham next week, and this important sale will attract sportsmen from all parts of the Dominion, as well as from Australia. Entries are as numerous as ever, all important breeding establishments in New Zealand being represented, as well as several in Australia. Naturally, with the success attending their progeny, imported sires are most strongly represented. What the effect of the present state of the - money- market will be is not hard to guess, but while tall prices may not be obtained this season, it is expected that breeders will get a fair return for their endeavours, and that more owners, will result from a drop to moderate prices,, and thus prove beneficial to .racing in:-the long run. The ‘‘tables”; of Bruce Lowe, Goos, and other students of breeding have given to. studmasters a sound basis on which to .mate, thoroughbreds, and it. is chiefly due to the research of such men that-, marked, improvement has been shown- in the speed of racehorses of. to-day.
