BRITAIN’S BRIGHTER SIDE
PROSPERITY OF MANY TRADES.
GREAT BUILDING ACTIVITY.
By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 7.10 p.m. London, Jan. 13. The Evening Standard in an article sets out the bright side of British business. It declares that many trades are more than keeping their end up despite the world depression, including insurance“‘and building societies, banks, and ■ j estate purchase —these chiefly because stock exchange investment is at present below normal. Others doing'well include big stores (because level-headed householders realise that commodities are now at their cheapest) and electrical supply equipment undertakings, commercial motor vehicle builders, wireless apparatus makers, breweries and the building trade.- Every part of London is studded with large scale reconstruction works, particularly in connection with business headquarters, evidencing faith in the future. Dorman, Long were never busier with bridge building and had £10,000,000 worth of contracts throughout the world. . . The newspaper expresses the opinion that a time like the present is not alto-' gether disadvantageous nationally as it • ”ives opportunity to concentrate in.putting houses in order and modernising plant and business organisations.
