Foxton, Last Night. The Fqxton race meeting opened, in blustery weather, driving rain showers setting in after the first race and making matters unpleasant. Holiday form was good to follow, Tenacre, Braggart and Doe were the only withdrawals from the Hurdles, ten starting. Disrank with Bowden in the saddle was a firm favourite, carrying nearly 80 tickets more than Callamart. Gueress was almost as well supported and all but the two lightweights were backed. He Whanga led Wyeford, Callamart and Gueress from an even start, the same four being prominent entering the straight.. Gueress led He Whanga, Wyeford and Callamart passing the stands, but Callamart ran into the lead at the six furlongs, followed by Full Mark, He Whanga, Wyeford and Disrank. Callamart led into the straight the last time from Full Mark

and Disrank and went on to win well by a length from Disrank, who was two lengths ahead of Full Mark. Gueress was fourth, followed by Wyeford and He Whanga. Disrank ran a great race under a big weight but Full Mark might be more likely to improve. FLOWER PERFORMS SMARTLY. Fifteen went to the post for the Novice Stakes, Catherine of Aragon carrying over 100 tickets more than Valueless and Amun Ra. Winacre had about 30 less. Winacre began best and led Enter, Valueless, Flower a.nd Amu.i Ra along the back. Winacre showed the way into the straight from Flower, Valueless, Bonacre and Catherine of Aragon. Winacre looked a winner but Flower finished strongly to get up and win by a head. Bonacre was a poor third, just in front of Valueless, Elizabeth and Hatteras. Winacre was unlucky to meet a smart two-year-old like Flower and may win shortly. Bonacre also finished well but the favourite ran wretchedly. LEISURE SCORES EASILY. Wereta, Arvada, Evening Hero and Star Girl were withdrawn from the Himitangi Handicap, 14 being saddled up. Leisure was a! warm order. Tray Bend had about 120 less and there was a drop to Statuary. Tray Bond dashed away in front of a strung-out field, followed by Leisure and . Quinola. Tray Bond, Quinola, Leisure and Abbey Queen was the order to the far turn. Leisure ran up to Tray Bond at the home bend, Quinola dropping back and Statuary coming fast. Tray Bond was done with at the distance, Leisure winning easily by a length from Statuary, who was two lengths clear of Tray Bond. Then came Abbey Queen, Quinola and Goldlike. Statuary should improve. OTAIRI IN GOOD FINISH. , Aurora Borealis was the only absentee from the Cup, ten being saddled. First Acre was sent out favourite. Otairi had about half the favourite’s number of tickets and Skyrider was almost as well backed. Billion lost ground at the start, Skyrider leading into the straight from Balloon, Dainty Ways and Bold Front. Skyrider and Balloon were abreast passing the stands, followed by Dainty Ways, Bold Front and Otairi. Balloon and Skyrider were four lengths clear of Dainty Ways passing the six furlongs and then came Marjoram, Bold Front and Otairi. The fiv'd closed up half a mile from home, Skyrider leading Balloon, Bold Front, Fi t Acre and Otairi into the straight. Billion and Marjoram then joined in and a o-reat race ensued. First Acre was in °front- 50 yards from the finish but Otairi secured a lucky run on the rails, just getting up to win by a good head. Grand Jury, who came fast, was two lengths back. Then came Billion, Marjoram, Bold Front and Dainty Ways. First Acre was a good thing beaten. Billion did well to gain fourth place. Skyrider failed to run on. Marjoram did’ not have a clear passage. Bold Front w as also interfered with. FRACTIOUS BAYACRE WINS. \ Scratchings reduced the field for the Anniversary Handicap to bare twodividend 1- proportions. Bayacre was heavily backed, Silver Rule carried over £2OO less and there was a drop of about £lOO to Limited and Sight Draft. Bayacre was very fractious at the post, delaying the start for a quarter of an hour, and was eventually left several lengths. Arikinui and Limited went off together with a big break to Coon Song and Silver Rule, Bayacre being last/ Limited and Arikinui were well clear entering the straight and were having a great tussle when Bayacre came with a great run to win on the post, heads separating the winner from Limited and Arikinui. Silver Rule was fourth. GREAT RACE TO DEAD-HEAT. Merry Melody, Corwcn, Warzone and Hatteras were taken out of the Carnarvon Hack Cup, and of the thirteen runners Arikira was slightly better backed than Fitz Quex and Kiriana. Spearform and Arikira from inside positions began best and were followed by Monalof and Kiriana the straight. Arikira led Spearform, Fitz Quex and The Sun'passim the six furlongs' and there was no change along the back. Arikira, Spearform, Kiriana,. Fitz Quex and Monalof ■ r ere prominent racing into the straight, where Fitz Quex and Kiriana singled themselves out. A great race saw the pair cross in line. Spearform, which was interfered with at the home bend, came fast in third place a good length away. Then followed Monalof, Arikira* and Arrowhead. TENACRE BY A HEAD. Six started in the Herrington Handicap. Tenacre and Lord Thomond monopolised the betting. Lord Thomond delayed the start and Tenacre dashed off well clear of Monsogne, Paiko and Lord Thomond. Tenacre and Monsogne were together, along the back, closely attended, by Paiko, and the trio came into the straight almost on terms, Gray’s superior horsemanship landing Tenacre a head -/inner from Monsogne. Maui was a poor third and then came Paiko and Wanderlust. Lord Thomond fell three furlongs from home and was injured, but A. E. Ellis was unhurt.
