DOMINION BOWLING TOURNEY
PROGRESS OF THE SINGLES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The second day’s play in the Dominion bowling, tournament singles was favoured with splendid weather, although a fairly strong breeze made the bowling difficult at times. With hot sunshine the Chrlton green, where the players were consolidated after the third round, rolled out in great running order. Clarke (Carlton), who was much fancied, was eliminated after two hard struggles against two well-known exponents of the game, Walker- and Parsons. Buchan (Balmacewan) put up a great fight, being put out only in the last round by Muston (Auckland). Both Walker and Parsons played well and the latter with two lives must stand a good chance. The following players remain in:—Parsons (Ponsonby), two fives; Muston (Auckland), Bell Junior (Hamilton), Kummer (Auckland), Walker (Auckland), one life each. Walker won the singles when the tournament was played at Auckland in 1915, 1919 and 1923. The pairs tournament will commence tomorrow and the rinks on Friday. The singles will be continued next week. After six rounds of singles the following two-lifers remained in:—Sharp (Edehdale), A. K. Smart (New Plymouth), Clarke (Carlton), Parsons (Ponsonby), De Launy (Epsom), together with 25 onelifers. The most interest this morning centred in the meeting of Clarke, the champion of .1927, and Rigby (Dunedin), the champion in 1922. Clarke, who had previously beaten Luscombe (New Plymouth) 15—13 in a close game, beat Rigby 18—4.
