RACE TRACK EVENTS

THE FOXTON MEETING. TO-DAY’S FIELDS REVIEWED (By “Paritutu.”) Yesterday was a wild and boisterous day at Foxton, but the tracks are in fine order after rain early in the .week, and everything points to good sport being provided there to-day and to-mor-row. Reduced admission charges will make the gathering even more of a picnic meeting than usual, and the ten shilling totalisator is in keeping with the times. The first race starts at noon each day. To-day’s racing commences with the POROUTAWHAO HACK HURDLES. Of 1'25 'sovs. Oiie mile and five furlongs.

Fourteen acceptors is an' indication that ' there are still plenty of jumping horses in the MahaWatu, and quite onehalf of the'field showed good form.'dur? ing the holiday meetings.'Disrank,. who occupies the post of honour, is a . distinct cut above his opponents, arid, if caught' in a galloping mood may take a lot of beating. Callaniart does .not strike one as a stayer, and was, stopping badly at .the end of a. mile, and ahalf when he. won.at Marton. Evening Hero is very, moody, but must have a chance, while Full Mark, Gueress and Braggart appear to.be the best of the lightweights. No doubt the' favourite, will be DISRANK, but there will be good money also for. First Money , and, Gueress. A big field will line up' for the’ NOVICE STAKES. " '■ Of SO sovs. Three-year-olds and upwards 8.5, two-year-01d5’7.7. Six furlongs. ' Tauri Lad Bonacre Deka Gaswyn Quexfram Elizabeth Enter Jocose Thermopylae Valueless Gambler Amun Ra Hortense Hatteras Flower Infusion Catherine of Aragon Rangimahoe Ibis ' Crown GrantWinacre Recent form points to Catherine of Aragon, Winacre, Valueless and Thermopylae as a quartette likely to go ■well in this class, and Taura Lad, Gambler and Rangimahoe are reported to go well on the tracks. Catherine of Aragon is now getting more solid, and ran a good race at Marton. Winacre finished second at New Plymouth,' but failed in better company oh her home track, Marton. However, the place-getters there,,Spearful, Spearform and Kiriana, are good class hacks. Valueless was badly interfered with in the Trial Plate at Marton, but finished third, just in front of Catherine of Aragon. Thermopylae has been tilting at harder propositions than maiden races, and, being a two-year-old, will have a good pull in the weights. Taura Lad, who will probably have the services of Gray, has been galloping nicely at Trentham. i When the machine closes it may he found that the public' will go for CATHERINE OF ARAGON, with Valueless and,Taura Lad next best. Hacks will be found aplenty in the HIMATANGI HACK HANDICAP.

Werata, Tray Bond, Statuary, Leisure,. Arvada, Abbey Queen and Quinola must all be considered here. Tray Bond has raced consistently; Statuary is. on the up-grade again; Leisure is a quick be- ■ ginner, arid favours a turning track, as at Foxton; Arvada, as Taranaki sportsknow, possesses great turn of speed; Abbey Queen comes under the same category as Leisure; and Quiuola has' gained place-money recently. To sum . them up, not knowing post position, Is a difficult task, but if well drawn,i TRAY BOND, Leisure and Abbey Queen may be well supported on the day. The principal race of the day follows, ■ the . , • if. -■ i FOXTON CUP. Of 275 sovs. One mile and a-quarter.

Otairi raced consistently at Awapuni ■ and at Marton, and is in such great nick at present that he. must have a great .chance here. .First Acre 'showed more form at Marton,' and seems to be improving with every gallop. Bold Front won at Hastings, and Marjoram ran sev- : era! firie races during the Taranaki Christinas and New Year carnival. Bil-,; lion has won on the Foxton course, and ■: dangerous lightweights include. Dainty 'Ways’ and Skyrider. The, last-named has been going great guns in company 'with ; Merry Damon at Awapuni, and if. de-i cently handled must have a' good..outside ’ : chance. The softened track will favour . : Marjoram, but local money will probably send OTAIRI out a firm favourite, with Marjoram aqd First Acre next in : demand. .Skyrider may be the .one. tq ' cause a’ surprise, if. one is in store. •< • The open' sprint handicap follows, and I the field comprises ANNIVERSARY HANDICAP. -

Bayacre, a 3-year-old, represehts good class, was a fair winner in Australia in the spring, and reproduced that form at Levin and at Ellerslie later on. He is the aristocrat of the field, and should carry his 9st well. Lord Thomond is also engaged in the Welter, and may not take ?on the Queen’s Plate winner. Arikinui has raced well, but has not had much luck lately. Limited looked bright and well at Marton, and will be better suited by six furlongs than- by seven, over which distance he finished second to Habit. Broad. Acre usually goes well at Foxton, and Coon Song and Silver Rule will ensure a good pace from the jump . out. BAYACRE looks like carrying the bulk of the investments, but Arikinui and Limited will not- be neglected. Another large field awaits punters in the CARNARVON HACK HANDICAP. Of 150 sovs. One mile.

Scratchings may reduce the number of starters, which .will ensure safer racing over a mile, course, the turn out of the straight being dangerous for a crowded field. ( I’m Alone a good sort, but does not read well in comparison With Spearforni, a good miler. Arikira won well at Awapuni and looks like turning out good, though well cared for here.- Fitzquex might do better over a ■shorter distance, but Monalof stays on well. Merry Melody has been galloping freely at Awapuni, and Arrowhead is also in good nick. The Sun comes with

Dai? private reputation . from .Trentham, Sand of the - rest,' Some Acre, Warfille ■’and' Kiriana (third at Marton) look .best. With any luck in running, SPEARform may take some holding off at the end, and Monalof and I’m Alone may account for the others. To-day’s racing concludes with the HERRINGTON HANDICAP.

Paiko has' been a, costly customer . lately, but should have a chance to make amends here, if well ridden. Maui will be at home on the track, and ran well during the holidays. Lord Tho- ; mond does not appeal, greatly, but Ten- ; acre, if reserved, looks a ’possibility. ’ The 7.11 division are a poor lot. The favourite may be PATKO, with Maui and Tenacre also well supported. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS. The following riding engagements are mentioned in.connection, with the Fox- 1 . ton meeting:—H..
