BUYING OF PIGS ON GRADE

IMPORTANT DECISION MADE LIMIT FOR BACONERS INCREASED. MEETING DANISH COMPETITION. i By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The most important decision yet in the pig industry in New Zealand was made to-day when representatives ot curers and producers with the acquiescence of the Department of Agriculture agreed to the principle of purchasing baconers and porkers on grade to start from January 19. The top weight for baconers was raised from 1401 b to 1591 b. All grading and weights will be carried out and supervised by Government inspectors. It is hoped that now New Zealand is following a system that has been long established and recognised in pigraising countries, the farmers will re,spond with the right type of pig and that within the next two or three years New Zealand will be able to fulfil the requirements of the British market which the Danes are now supplying.
