REMARK -ADDRESSED TO POLICE. Suppression of name was ordered in the case of a man .who .appeared at the Stratford Police Court yesterday charged with using indecent language in Broadway, Stratford, on. Saturday night. His offence consisted of addressing Sergeant J. J. Power as a - big bluff. The remark had been made during a discussion, said the sergeant, and though’ the word used had not been- filthy it was to.be indecent and men. could •not be permitted to address members of the police force in such language. Accused had had a few drinks and was probably a little hasty. The offence was not a serious one. . ’ . ■■■ . . “Convicted and discharged,” said Mr. G. E. CHRISTMAS PRESENTATIONS. An enjoyable concert was given by the pupils of the Kiore school in con-junction-with the young ladies of the district on. .Thursday, night. The .school was -decorated with- streamers, and ingenious lighting effects for the improvised stage provided an unusually attractive scene for a country -function. ’ -All -the ilems were most pleasing and showed 'evidence of careful preparation by the'- headmaster, Mr. -B. E. Mason, who, during his : short stay in the-dis-trict, has become very popular. Stockley; playette, “The Ladies’ Aid Society,” young ladies of The district; trio, K. Patterson, J. Hovind and J. Schreiber ; ; recitation, Miss E. Hasler; -solo, Rene Patterson; quartet, W.- Mounsey, N. Hasler, W. Stockley and R.' Schreiber; duet,-Misses I. and .& Forman; recitation, Nora Hasler; sblo, W. Stockley;- unison song,- “Shen-, andohh.” ' ' .' After the concert a book was presented to eAch child., Then Father Clrristmas arrived and distributed gifts from thb Christmas tree. T- , One of; the pupils, Nora Hasler, pre-sented,-Mr. Mason with a shaving outfit. Mr. Mason thanked the. children for their thought and the people of the district for the help they ad. accorded him,'especially the young ladies, who had done so much to make the concert a success. ■ .• Dancing and supper concluded a- very enjoyable evening. ■. ELTHAM MUSIC PUPILS. . The music, pupils of, Mrs. and Miss Blennerhassett gathered-at the.Oddfellows’! Hall,- Elthain, on Saturday afternoon, when the annual prize-giving, took place. Games were played, and after afternoon tea Mrs.. Blennerhasset presented .’the prizes, to the winners, who were congratulated bn their performances.

McCabe, TeKuiti, is on a holiday visit to Stratford. He is staying with Mr. and Mrs. W. Clark. Mr. and Mrs. F.. Wylds and family, Eltham, are spending the holidays at Kawhia. Mr.. and Mrs. G. H. P. Fitzgerald have left Eltham for a short motor trip to Wellington. Mr. Phil Carman is spending the Christmas vacation with his parents, Mr. arid Mrs. H. G. Carman, Eltham.
