PREPARING FOR CHRISTMAS
OFF MORNING AT NEW PLYMOUTH. ACCEPTANCES FOR STRATFORD.
(By “Moturoa.”)
lYeeterday was an ‘'off” morning at New Plymouth, but nevertheless there was considerable intere&t taken in the work of 'the favoured candidates for the Taranaki Jockey Club’s meeting. After the week-end rain it was surprising to find the tracks in perfect order, and the showers should have a beneficial effect on the course proper. Most pf the final gallops will be staged this morning. Grand Spirit, Stimulant . and 'Silent ,Miss were given half-pace work on the inner. They all look well. Similar tasks were allotted Melissa, Miss Chatter-, Sparkling Morn and Cornerman. <4 ’ Moerangi hit out freely over a couple of circuits. He is to school this morning with Razor. Belle Star- and Ridgemount, each ridden by Johnson, went a mile on the trjgl grass at three-quarter pace. Belle Star looks very muscular. The Swell, Traced (L. Dulieu), Crennatown and Onieo worked on the inner grass. . Orapai (K. Gill), and ; Tangiroa (O’Brien) were anxious to improve on their three-quarter pace task. Gibraltar (Gill) and Te Atiawa (Davis) went a circuit op, the trial grass at three-quarter, pace, the two-year-old going the better. Gold Dawn did solid pace work. Easter Time (George) sprijited home from the two furlongs at a little better than three-quarter pace. Lady Quex (Goulsbro) ran the last two of a circuit in 2Ssec, but was pulling hard throughout. Razor was given a couple of rounds on the inner grass. Annoyer and Singer were allotted tasks. » 5 , Royal Finance went very kindly for Gouls'bro over a circuit at little better than three-quarter pace. She muse be respected wherever started at New Plymouth. . ■Moatou is reported to be sprinting well at Stratford. Old Yoma is said to be bearing that “cart-horse” look, but it will be remembered that he runs his best races when like that.
Taranaki owners and trainers are reminded that acceptances for all events on the first day of the Stratford Racing Club’s New Year meeting close with the secretary, Mr. W. Power, at nine o’clock to-night. The Stratford telegraph office closes at 8 p.m.
