By Telegraph.—Press Association,
Auckland, December 22.
The weather was fine for training work at Ellerslie this morning. ThO course proper, with trestles 40ft. out from the rails, was open and there was some interesting work. The going was excellent and several good gallops were recorded. The best performance of the morning was that of Nightmarch, whieh went once round in 2miu. 3 4-ssec., the best effort over the distance since the course was altered two years ago. Star Stranger, Count Palatine and Cylinder were responsible for a good showing over the same distance,- while Hunting Day, Royal Tea, Gesture and Courtesy did best of the sprinters. On the course proper Lady Pam was sent six furlongs in Imin. 19 l-ssec. Cape Gold assisted her over the last five furlongs, which occupied Imin. 5 3-ssec. There was a lot of interest in the next gallop, when Star Stranger (Gray), Gay Crest (Brownlee), Cylinder (Wiggins), Count Palatine (Gerrand) and Sir Mond (Cammiek) were sent together for a round. They moved away fairly well together, Cylinder taking the lead .near the seven furlong post, but the other four were together close behind him at the five furlong post and they raced in that order till the turn for home. When they reached the winning post Star Stranger, on the outside,' was • just in front of Cylinder and Count Palatine, with Sir Mond and Gay Crest a couple of lengths away. COURSE IN EXCELLENT ORDER. Palmerston North, December 22. Excellent conditions prevailed for training operations at Awapuni this morning, a light rain overnight having left the track in splendid order.
