P.; Marshall, who was compelled to serve under a foreign flag in order to qualify as a pilot, owing ’; to. the abwnce of any British, square- ■ rigger, said:— . “I am afraid we asked for it. We sailed '■ from Pitea, in the Gulf of Bothnia, on a Friday, with thirteen in the crew. The ship's cat deserted .the last, day in port. The Shakespeare sprang a leak and twelve hours’ -pumping -daily was unable to cop* with the inflow. Fog and head winds cmjtinued til! the vessel stranded on a Friday.” The Seven- Seas Club has the Shakwpeare’s bell tor summoning members to dinner. - , ■. '. ’ \ - ■
