Though meteorological aeroplanes daily become ice-coated they usually land safely, but to-day Dr. Steener, meteorologist, witha pilot 1 carrying biit wind measurements at Konigsberg reached a region of intense frigidity at 22,000 feet. The machine was covered with ice and the rudder was frozen in a solid block. The plane crashed and the occupants were killed.
