ORAPAI’S SMART FIVE FURLONGS.
ROYAL FINANCE GALLOPS NICELY

Training operations on the New Plymouth tracks were made unpleasant yesterday morning by a number of cold showers, and follb.wing the overnight rain the trial grass'was slightly licki-
ng. - ■ Johnson’s team did half-puce work.
Traced (Drink.water) and Sparkling Morn (McLeod) scampered over half a mile in 51 3-ssec.
Te Atiawa (Davis) was. no good to Tqligiroa (Marsh) over five furlongs in Imin. asec. The Bisognc gelding went well. ■ Orapai (Marsh) was just too good for Gold Dawn (Robinson) over five furlongs ill Imin. 3sec. It was a rattling good gallop and Orapai was not extended.
Omeo did strong pace work on the inner. Hinepuni (George) juet beat Little Doubt (Goulebro) over three furlongs in 38 4-S.sec. - '
Urenrtatown (Todd) was given a nice working gallop over six furlongs, which occupied Imin. 19 3-sseC. The last five Was run in Inlin. QJsec.
Gibraltar and the Lapidary anti Bisogne maidens were given a working gallop over half a mile. Lady Lulu (George) and Easter Time (Goulsbro) finished on terms over hfilf a mile in 51bcc.. : ’ •> Razor (Todd) schooled Well over two hurdles and then ran a, circuit at Solid three-quarter pa.ee. Lady Qu ex (Marsh) was not bustled over half a mile and went along smoothly in imin, 4§oc. Royal Finance (Marsh) skipped Over fcii furlongs in Imin. 17 .4-osec. The first half-mil© Occupied oOscc. and she was cased Slightly in th©' straight. The New Plymouth horseman G. GoUlpbro will not ride at the Taranaki Christmas meeting, but at Manawatu hb is engaged for Pkhu, Just an Idea, Fernden, Korokio, Kilorell and Pandia. He will also ride at the Awakino beach races on Friday. The Wcll-kndWn New Plymouth mentor, Mr. W. F» Mantle, is at present confined to bed, but it is hoped, that •hfe will be well enough to supervise the final gallops of his big team for the New Plymouth meeting. This misfortune is a particularly unhappy one as Mrs. Mantle is at present in hospital.
