A tube was forced through the coal rind Wienthal, imprisoned in a small hollow, was supplied through it with fresh air and liquid food. Later in the week |a doctor prescribed liquid diet, which was given through the tube. Wienthal kept asking jestingly for the menu. He told the rescuers he was catching the liquids in a boot. Although Wienthal was in danger of being buried beneath a fresh fall of coal at any moment he was cheerful, and cracked jokes with his comrades.
