CORONER ANNOUNCES VERDICTS.
Coroner’s vcrdicU on the deaths connected with the recent wqvietionH of Alexander Townsend for wife murder and Abraham Wally Mahomed Salaman ■ for manslaughter were delivered at New Plymouth on Saturday by Mr. R, W. Tale, S.M. He found that Mrs. Cora Alice. Towns- i end died on September 16 as the result of a mechanical injury to the spinal ' cord inflicted on her neck with a knife by Alexander Townsend. The finding regarding the death of ' Lyall Gordon Christie, aged (U, on August 2 was that it occurred while he was in a diabetic coma consequent on tlie withdrawal of insulin. When the verdict on Christie’s death was about to be given Mr. A. A. Bennett said he desired to be heard for a moment, but Mr. Tate said he could not hear addresses in matters of this kind. They were hardly necessary and certainly undesirable. . . . ’ Mr. Bennett said that was all he wanted to know. If he was refused a hearing he had nothing more to say. .The evidence at both inquests were taken in conjunction with the lower court proceedings for. committal for trial.
