Crops were seriously damaged and railway services interrupted by washouts; Melbourne and suburbs were seriously affected, 1000 telephones being put out of action; A horseman named O’Brien was drowned crossing the flooded Whitehead Creek near Seymour. Many narrow escapes are reported. Heavy thunderstorms are reported from the northern districts of South Australia, the worst floods occurring since 1923. Railway washouts and damage to roads are reported in many places. The Broken Hill express was held up for eight hours. ' Heavy rain at Melbourne caused the postponements of the. inter-Stat* tennis and the Moonee Valley races.
