TARANAKI JUSTICES
ELECTION OF OFFICERS. MEETING AT STRATFORD. ✓ The. annual meeting of the Taranaki Justices of the Peace Association, held at the Courthouse, New Plymouth, last night, was attended by about 20 members. The, president, Mr. R. W. Tate, S.M., presided. The report and balancesheet, aS published, were adopted. The meeting re-elected Mr. Tate president and placed on record its appreciation of his services. _ ' A special tribute was paid Mr. Trimble for his services as registrar. The election of the other officers resulted: Patron, Justice. MacGregor; vice-presidents, Messrs. W- L. Kennedy and R. W. D. Robertson; hon. registrar and treasurer, Mr. H. Tfimble; council, Mies G. A. Drew, Messrs. J. T. Griftm, W. H. Skinner, N. B. Fletcher, W. J. Chaney, A. Cassie; hon. auditor, Mr. A. S. Brooker; hon. solicitor, Mr. C. H. Weston. Messrs. Kennedy and Griffiths were appointed the association’s delegates to the Wartganui conference, Messrs. Fletcher and Chaney wSre selected deputies to the other two members. It was decided to hold certain of the quarterly, meetings at Stratford, Mr. Fletcher,-who made a suggestion to that effect, considered thaf)-such an* experiment would assist in enrolling . additional members in South Taranaki. The lono- trip to New Plymouth debarred some southern members from attending regularly. r " , In view of the loyalty shown by the Stratford Association Mr. W. H.- Skim her supported the motion. Mr. Kennedy considered that it would be more satisfactory to commence a branch of the association at HaWera and stimulate interest in that district. Mr. E. Marfell supported Mr. Fletcher's suggestion. In view .bf the New Zealand annual conference being held at Wanganui it was resolved'to hold the first meeting of the New Year at Stratford. The Stratford, members were asked to attend to the local arrangements and the interesting of Hawera justices. Other matters were left to the registrar. I’t was stated that Mr. C. H. Weston would address the first meeting. The advisability, of having legislation enacted to make hospital board fees the first charge upon insurance payments was discussed at some length but no action was taken as it was considered that it was outside the association’s province to pass any resolution. Mr. Tate pointed out that at present the association was hardly in a position' to take any action until, the
hospital boards took the initiative and asked for support. In answer to a question by Mr. Gibson the chairman stated that any motorist or other person was entitled to report to' the police any instances of motoring offences personally witnessed.
