OPIUM SMUGGLERS
LABOUR MEMBER SUSPENDED. An attempt to emuggle quantities of opium into Fiji was made by two eea♦jen on the Karetu when the steamer was at Suva early last month. Two suspected men were arrested and were found to be in possession of two long, flat, braes containers, each holding about 11b. of opium The men were charged in the Suva Police Court and were each fined £5O, or in default six months’ imprisonment. The fines were paid, by the crew of the vessel. rhe authorities- state that considerable quantities of opium are being smugg e into Fiji but detection is a difficult matter, \ .
