In the Sheffield Shield cricket match against New South Wales, Queensland ing 'the first innings made 687, a record for Sheffield Shield matches at Brisbane. Thompson made 275 not out, 'Benstead 52 and Hurwood 47. Hunt took four wickets for ,128, Chilvers two for 209, and Stewart two for 83. Fairfax did not take a solitary wicket. New South Wales, having made 556 in the first innings, in the second reached 159 for five (Jackson and McCabe each 53) when stumps were drawn. ,
The match was remarkable for the scoring. Thompson’s achievement caused the wildest cheering. Spectators carried him shoulder-high. > Queensland won on the first innings by 121 runs.
