NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK WORK
HECTOR GRAY A. VISITOR. (“By Moturoa.’’) . './Following the early morning rain, the New Plymouth track was heavy yesterday morning, but there were interesting gallops. Hector ■ Gray motored through to fulfil a couple of riding en■gagements en route to the Taumarrziui meeting. Melissa (Marsh) was first on the track,' but was restricted to threequarter pace work. ,/ / .Cornerman (McLeod) • and Miss Chatter (Marsh) were given a nice working gallop, but were-not out to make time.. The Bisogne —Campbird three-year-old was given pace work. Ridgemount (N. Johnson) made his first appearance on the tracks since his holiday trip to. Melbourne. He looks a trifle’ gross,-' but, • nevertheless, he .is very'well. He worked on the plough. :) The Swell ’(Johnson), strode along freely on the plough. . He’.'is very , fit just now. ' 'Belle' Star (O’Brien)' and Razor. (Drinkwater) jumped off at ' the five, .furlong peg, but the Lucullus. mare had her companion in’ hand all, the way and ran the distance in Imin 9sec. Hpwever, Razor went very well for a huriter.. Tangiroa (Drinkwater) ran home from the two furlongs in 29sec. Manly (Todd) and Omeo (Robinson) were companions over a couple of circuits'on the plough at half-pace. They both look very well at present. Gibraltar (Gray) and Te Atiawa , (Davis) hopped off from the three furlong peg. Gibraltar was ridden right out and covered the distance in 40 1-5 see. z Te Atiawa was five lengths behind at the finish.
Easter Time (Marsh) and Lady Lulu (George) moved away together, but the two-year-old was always going nicely and was. in front at the finish. The three furlongs was cut. but in 38’4-5 sec—a good gallop. Royal Finance (Gray) slipped over half a mile in 52sec. The first two were covered in under 2psec and the Paper Money mare was not hurried over the last bit. She is particularly well, at present. Singer (Todd) and Gold Dawn (Robinson) worked quietly on the plough. Both look very'well. Annpyer (B. George) was cantered around on the plough. “Nuk” Johnson, who arrived back from India on Monday, has not a very high opinion of the “Jewel of the East,” and seems very pleased to be ! back where he is known. :
