The appointment of a Royal’ Commission to inquire into the working of unemployment insurance under the chair? manship of Judge Holman Gregory was announced in the House of Commons last night by Mr, Philip Snowden., ■ The Minister of Labour, .Miss Mar? garet Bondfield, moved an increase of the unemployed insurance fund’s borrowing powers by £10,000,000 to £70.0000,000. The fund’s debt is now £56,000,000 and is increasing at the rate of £40,000,000 ii year. The total of benefits plus the cost of interest andjidministration is £107,000,000 a year. ’The motion was carried by 274 votes to 214.
