WOOL SALES AT WANGANUI

“SIxTY PER CENT. BELOW COST’’ FARMERS’ CO-OPERATIVE REPORT. The first sale of the 1030-31 season was held in Wanganui yesterday, the Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society reports. The catalogue, comprised over 13,000 bales. Of this number approximately 6000 bales were withdrawn before the auction and of the remainder a'bout 60 per cent, was sold under the hammer. There was the usual attendance of buyers and bidding was fairly well spread, but in sympathy with the market elsewhere the limits were considerably reduced, the average being 2d to,3d lower than prices realised in the March sale. The price is approximately ; 6d per lb. lower than at the opening sale last year. Wool to-day in the, opinion of the Farmers’ Co-op. is being sold at over 60 per cent, below the cost of production. Following are some of the Farmers’ Co-op. realisations: —JD/K, 13 bales ewes, 4Jd; Matapu, 27 bales Romney crossbred ewes, 4|d; Riri, four bales hoggets, 5Jd; CS/O, four bales hoggets, 54d;.TT, eight bales hoggets, si_d; TT, four bales wethers, sd; 3'L, I's bales ewes, 4Jd; Miro, seven bales hoggets, sd; SBT, four bales hoggets, ogd; Makuri, 14 bales hoggets, 5Jd; Makuri, 15 bales wethers, sd; Makuri, 32 bales tewes, sd; Mac/Waitui, four bales hoggets, sd; CLR, four bales hoggets, 51d; OLR, 11 bales ewes, 4|d; various, 19 bales hoggets, ad; CH/T, nine bales hoggets, sd; CH/T, four bales wethers°°44d; RSA/W, three bales lambs, LU/W, one bale lambs, 6d. WITHDRAWALS NUMEROUS. REVIEW BY NEWTON KING. LTD. (By Wire —'Special to News.) Wanganui, Last Night. Reporting on the Wanganui wool sale Newton King, Ltd., says that owing to the declines registered at the Auckland and London sales valuations were reduced accordingly and in many cases these were not acceptable to woolgrowers. Consequently withdrawals were numerous. Bidding was animated up to strictly defined limits with the Continent always prominent. Unlike the Auckland. sale Bradford was in the market and lifted a good weight of wool. Bright- sorts showing quality were keenly competed for but seedy and inferior had a poor reception. With the amount of held-over w’ool available it was hoped a good clearance w-ould be made and the pile-up now is not helping matters. As the next two sales are restricted of quantity a lot will have to take its turn. Lambs and pieces were not offered and only a few crutellings. ' Prices for these will to-day hardly pay charges. Following are some of Newton King's realisations: —HJK, hoggets, sj|d; WHK, wethers, sd; CJ, ewes, R and N —4, hoggets, 5Jd; Petrie-Aria, crossbred, 4Jd; FB-vO, ewes, 4jd; LB—M, hoggets. sd; Toline—Aria, crossbred, 4|d; ’WFK, ewes, 4d; WF-0, hoggets, s{d; DCL, crossbred, 5Jd; HJK, ewes, 44d; ZF, hoggets, sd; TFA, crossbred, 4d; ASPF, ewes, 4Ad; Whitecliffs, hoggets, 4Jd; TTT, crossbred, 4d; JY-Panui, ewes, 4Jd; XXXX, ewes, 4^d; v HLY, ewes, 4|d. WOOL IN FAIR CONDITION. DOAN AIND MERCANTILE PRICES. (By Wire—Special to News.) Wanganui, last Night. The New Zealand Loan and Mercan-. tile Agency Co.,- Ltd., reports that its quota comprised 1451 bales drawn from ■Wanganui, Palmerston North, Main Trunk and Taranaki districts. Prices showed little or no change from those ruling at Auckland earlier in the week. Owing to the very wet weather, which retarded shearing, the offering was much smaller than was anticipated and would have been smaller had it not been that a considerable proportion of held-over wbol was included in the catalogues. This season’s wool opened up in fair condition-but unfortunately a lot of it contained seed and the held-over wool in many instances w-as badly discoloured which, of course, militated against its realising quite as good prices as this year’s clip. Very little lambs wool was included in the offering and only well-grown parcels free from seed attracted the buyers, while short and seedy lots were more or less neglected and to effect sales very low prices had to be accepted. Bellies, pieces and locks, unless clean and free from seed, were also hard to sell and low prices for them had to be accepted. Following are some of the firm’s prices:—FXH/KI, hoggets, 4^d; Mt. Zion, hoggets AA 6d, hoggets A SM, w ethers A A 54d; Preston Hill, hoggets A 6Jd, wethers ajd; The Glyn, wethers, 4fd;~ RO, hoggets A 5Jd, hoggets B, 4fd; LY/Puriri, hoggets, 5Jd, wethers, 5Jd; CB/Te Korito, hoggets, 6Jd, wethers, sd; Okura hoggets A and B, 5Ad, A and -wether A, 5Jd; Roto where, hoggets A, 5Jd, B, hoggets A and AA, s|d, A sd; G-WB'/Moawhango and RTB/Moa-w-hango, hoggets A, 6d, hoggets B, 5Jd, ewes A, B H, ad, wethers, 4Jd; OH hoggets, ajd, hoggets and' Southdown hoggets AA, 6d, hoggets A, sld; WA and RA, sid; W and G/Maire, hoggets and ewes, 4fd; HGH .hoggets, ajd, wethers 4d, crossbred hoggets, sd, wethers, 4id; GP\V hoggets, aid, wethers, 44d; Te Raupo, hoggets, aid; Korae, hqggets, aid.
