ABANDONED SECTIONS

AREAS AT PIRONGIA. The problem of abandoned sections in the Pirongia east and west townships, originally allotted to demobilised soldiers after the Maori wars, is nearing solution. Advice has been received that the Crown Lands Board has allotted many of the ownerless acres to owners of occupied sections adjoining. There yet remains the disposal of dedicated but unformed streets bdunding these sections and which are not required. The Waipa and Raglan County Councils are both concerned, and representations will b© mad© to those bodies by the settlers to have streets adjoining their holdings made available for purchase. The consolidated properties will then be ratable and productive. For many years they have been harbourages for noxious weeds.
