SLOW BATTING AT SYDNEY

NEW SOUTH WALES OUT FOR 207. RAIN ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Sydney, Nov. 23. Interest in the cricket match between New South Wales and West Indies is keen, 12,000 watching the resumption of play yesterday on a good wicket. A boisterous southerly made conditions unpleasant and played tricks with the bowling. The game was full of incident and delighted the onlookers, whose numbers after lunch were 25 000. The New South Wales score of 71 for two was increased to 207. The West Indies team, which made 188 in the first innings on Friday, had made 61 for the loss of three wickets, when rain stopped play at 4.30 p.m. Kippax went without adding to his overnight score of 6, and Constantine had notched two wickets for nine runs. Bradman and McCabe carried on steadily till another 34 runs were on the board. Then McCabe fell to Constantine. Jackson joined Bradman and they added 30. Then Francis earned his side’s gratitude by bringing about Bradman’s dismissal. AHsopp played a good innings till run out sensationally immediately after lunch, Grant by a quick return throwing his wicket down. Oldfield gave a good exhibition but had a dose of his own medicine when he stepped out and missed one from Scott. Roach and Martin began the Indians’ second strike. Roach hit freely and knocked up 20. Then, essaying a repeat boundary stroke, he turned the ball into his wicket. His partner meantime had scored only a single in 20’minutes. Headley succeeded Roach and delighted the crowd with fine placings. At 46 Martin went, having taken 65 minutes to compile four. Headley and Birkett made seven each, and then Birkett z returned to the pavilion, Grant came in, but after his partner had notched a single an apepal against the weather was upheld and play was stopped.
