Following the 12 per cent, salary reduction a regular drive has been initiated throughout Italy to reduce the cost of living. Meetings were held today in every city and township in order to readapt local economy with a view to reducing the prices of bread, meat, vegetables and rent. New prices have already been submitted to the Governor of Rome showing a reduction of 10 to 12 per cent, in foodstuffs. Scores of landlords have announced rent reductions. At present all the changes are voluntary, but public opinion is so strong that anybody withholding would find himself hounded out of business, the vigorous campaign is so effective. The salary reductions are already balanced by the new spending value of the lira. -.
