MANAGEMENT committee meets A meeting of the management committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union was held at Stratford last night, when j there were present: Messrs J. McLeod (chairman), W, A. Guy, A. ■H. Guy, Ei H. Young, G. H. Percy, J. Paterson, R. .G. Rutherford, J. Goodwin, C. L. ’ Mullaney, J. S. Hickey, J. Garcia, the Hon. R. Masters and- Mr, S. E. Niel- ■ son (secretary). The chairman reported, that the season’s operations would probably show a slight , loss. In view of ; the hefl-vy touring programme last year, the position must be regarded as • satisfactory. The totals of club gates were: —New Plymouth £444 19s, Stratford £lB5 7s, Hawera £134 4s 6d, Opunake £75 14s, Patea £74 4s, Manaia £67 6s 6d, Waitara £62 3s, Inglewood £44 4s, Kaponga £42 17s, Okaiawa £3O 9s, Eltham £2l 6s 6d, Oka,to £l2 0s 6d. > • ' There had been a loss on the matches played at Eltham and Okato, the latter club having forwarded a cheque to cover its deficiency of £1 16s 6d. Including representative games the total of New Plymouth gates had been £1252. ! The total ground rent paid was £5ll. The Hawera showgrounds, for which an -annual rental of £I5 r was paid, had on a 12 per cent, basis earned • £93, and Pukekura Park, for which £240 annually was paid, had earned £l's6 on a 12 per cent, basis (exclusive of the British match). ■' - '~ The sum of £2Bl had been paid into 4he insurance fund—£llo percentage pf club gates and £B3 percentage of representative games, and £79 had been received from the 2s levy paid'by players. It was anticipated that calls on the fund would total £251, leaving a credit balance of £3O. on the year, and making a total credit in the fund of • about £142. The treasurer remarked < that the levy on players was stabilis- ■ ’ ing the funds. It was resolved to keep the insurance fund in a seperate account. 1 The New Plymouth branch of the National Defence League. asked support to a resolution recording the hope that the Government would re-establish military training under the Defence Act at the earliest possible moment. Mr. Masters stated that the cessation of r military training was purely a temporary expedient due to the necessity for economy. The letter was received. Mr. C. L. Mullaney, manager of the Taranaki team on the Wellington tour, submitted a report on the tour, paying a tribute to the splendid treatment given by officials of both the Wairarapa and Wellington Unions. The team was a credit to the union both on and off the field. The chairman of the Wellington Union (Mr. J. Prendeville) had stated publicly that the Wellington, Auckland and Taranaki Unions were the strongest hi New Zealand lust year. •It was resolved that in future there be no official complimentary dinner to teams taking part in the championship filial.
