An attitude of protest against art unions, “a petty form of gambling,” was a feature of the report which was supported by the synod. Mention was made of a representative deputation that had waited upon the Minister of Internal Affairs protesting against suggestive pictures and posters and satisfaction was expressed that the Minister was in sympathy with the views of the deputation, a promise having been made that pictures should be placed under the censor. Increased activity was reported in band of hope work and the younth movement against alcohol. Appreciation of the fine work of the W.C.T.U. was shown in the report. Valuable gifts to the library had been received, The principal of the college, Dr. Laws, completed his term of office next March, a fitting recognition of his long services being under way.
