PRINCIPALS IN SATURDAY’S BOXING CONTEST

LLEW EDWAKDS MAKES GOOD.

“Young Llew Edwards came through his most severe test in Melbourne with flying colours. He was given his first international contest in opposition to the American Johnny Green. He is still in his teens, and is improving with every fight. He is easily the most promising boxer we have had on this side of the Murray River since Spargo left the ring. His rise from preliminary ranks has been little snort of marvellous, for it is only months ago since he was boxing four-round preliminaries. He has a natural style and is a very fast and accurate puncher. The huge crowd that turned out to see Edwards put through his supreme test was roused to a high pitch of enthusiasm by the clever footwork and snappy punching of tne lad Green was bewildered from the start at the speed of Edwards, who battered away with snappy left leads followed by short rights. There was, however, a feeling that the greater experience of Green would prevail after the tenth round. But when Green started to force the pace he found Edwards ready to swap punches with him, and Edwards I finished just as brilliantly as the American. Edwards won nt least ten rounds. Edwards 8.12>A, Green 8.13 1 /..”— Sydney Referee.
