PLUNKET SOCIETY BENEFITS. ' The Opunake Plunket Society anticipates a profit of £25 from the concert on Monday night. The money will go the building of a Plunket room. The concert was one of the beet staged in Opunake for some time. The talent from other parts of the > province very materially assisted, the local people, in making the programme attractive. Visitors who assisted were Mesdames Jemison, Ferrick and Hurley, Misses Vooght, Rothery, Crawshaw, Massey and Knight, Messrs. Blake, Buckley and Beavis. The orchestra specially organised for the occasion consisted of Mr. W. D. Richards (piano), Mrs. T. N. Watt, Miss Kirk and Mr. G. Walker, (violins), Mr. Humphries ■ (cornet), Mr. Henderson (trombone), Mr. Brooker (drum and side instruments). __ The sketches organised by Mr. E. Smith provided part of the programme and Mrs. Harrison’s pupils in ballet dancing added variety. The concert was organised by Mrs. Watt and the stage manager was Mr. E. Smith. Accompaniments were played by Miss Crawshaw, Mise Gilhooley and Mr. W. D. Richards. Mr. C. 0. Edmonds thanked the performers and public for the liberal assistance given. On Thursday evening the Opunake Athletic club will hold a ‘‘try out” athletic competition. The competitors entered are nearly all ma,iden starters. The meeting will probably find some young fellows capable of developing into good runners. The Surf Club euchre party in aid of the funds for providing a dressing shed for the girl members was held on Friday night. The prize-winners were Miss Alice Newman Ist, Mrs. Whittington 2nd; Mr. R. E. Peat Ist, Mr. D. Coombes 2nd. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs. McNae and Mr. L. Alagee. The competition for a Doulton plate was won by Miss V.. Fevre.
