POULTRY FANCIERS MEET
TARANAKI CLUB’S WORK. The annual meeting of the Taranaki A. and P. Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club, held in New Plymouth on Tuesday evening, was fairly well attended. Mr. H. J. Hall presided. From a show point of view the past year had been successful, the chairman stated in moving the adoption of the annual report (already published). He regretted that the committee’s efforts to maintain the interest of the younger and less experienced members of the. club by means of seasonable lectures had been less successful. Some really good lectures had been given, but the attendance must have been very discouraging to those who had gone to much trouble to prepare them. He considered, that this was a very important part of the club’s work but felt that it would have to be abandoned through lack of support. Mr. A. B. Meiklejohn seconded the motion, which was carried. Messrs. H. J. Hall, A. P. Lister, A. T. Moore, J. Mclntosh, J. H. Hawkins, T. Smellie, H. J. Movcrley, C. C. Webb, 1 1 . Hatcher, J. James, A. B. Meiklejohn,' F. J. Aldous and H. Curline were elected a committee. Recommendations were made to the in-, coming committee that they go into the ■ matter of improving the general arrange- j ment of pens before next show and that application be made to .certain specialist clubs to hold their shows in conjunction with the club's June show, Mr. E. James suggested that the committee consider the question, of nominating a third judge from the official list to arbitrate in case of difference of opinion where two judges have to allot specials conjointly. He quoted from his own experience as a judge to show that such . aitioi. was desirable. Mr. James also appeak’, for greater consideration to the bantam section of the show, lie" predicted that there would be a strong sec: tion of bantams at the next show am; maintained that they deserved more.consideration than they had been getting in the past. The matter was referred to th' eoinmitfee for attention. , The secretary of the Kurth Island
Poultry Association advised that the possibility of a unanimous agreement on the utility standard of perfection by the North and South Island Poultry Associations seemed hopeless and that the Government had refused to assist financially iii producing the standard unless an agreement were readied. In accordance
with, a resolution passed at the last annual meeting of the North Island Association it was proposed to proceed with the production of the standard at their own expense. It was proposed to produce the standard with plates in accordance with the decision arrived at during a conference, held in Wgllinalon. compris-
in'* delegates from the North and South Island Associations and Government poultry instructors. He asked for any suggestions or proposals regarding the work before connneiicenierit was made with the production. It was resolved to reply recommending filial in view of ,the unfortunate circum-
stances and the importance of producing a uniform standard for both the Noith and South Islands that the whole matter be deferred in the meantime and discussed again at the annual meeting of the North Island Poultry Asociation to ba held next June.
•Mr. A. P.- Lister referred to the good work performed by. the chairman, Mt. H. J. Hall, throughout the past year. This wan endorsed, by other members, and .ft resolution recording- the meeting’s appreciation of his splendid work was carried by acclamation,
