METHODIST SYNOD SESSION

WORK AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE. INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP. Following a communion service yesterday morning, at which the Rev. J. L. Mitchell addressed delegates, the representative session of the Taranaki-Wa-nganui Methodist Synod opened. An address was given by the chairman, Rev. Clarence Eaton, New Plymouth. . An increase in church membership in the district during last year was reported.. The Sunday school report was consid-ered-encouraging. Miss Sheat and Mrs. Wills presented the Bible class reports. Mr. E. Dixon was unanimously appointed young people’s representative at the conference. The Rev. J. Cocker presented a report on the Masterton orphanage. The Rev. R. B. Gosnell was reappointed secretary of synod, and the Rev. E. S. Emmitt, M.C., was elected synod representative at the conference. Synod decided to support the application of the Rev. G. S. Cook, New Plymouth, for superannuation, on account of ill-health. Ministerial representatives attending the synod are:—The Revs. C. Eaton (chairman of district), R. B. Gosnell, J. Boothroyd, G. S. C. -M- Roberfs (Opunake), W. Wilson, H.M>(Okato), P. J. Cossurn (Kaponga), E. T. Cox, M.A., T. Brady (Wanganui), J. Olphert (Wanganui North), J. L. Mitehell (Marton), E. S. Bennett (Raetihi-Ohakune), F. J. Handy (Taihape), C. Aker, H.M. (Patea). Lay representatives are: —Mr. and Mrs. P. Wells, Mr. Mark Barnitt (New Plymouth), Mr. D. B. McKee, Mr. S.
