AUCKLAND CHINESE MARKET
HARBOUR BOARD GRANTS LEASE. LOCAL BODIES’ OPPOSITION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Nov. 12. Considerable opposition has ben voiced by local bodies and individuals to the leasing by the Auckland Harbour Board of sections for the purpose of establishing a Chinese market. The board, when granting the application, is said to have been unaware of all the circumstances, but yesterday the board's solicitors stated that the Supreme Court would grant a decree for the specific performance of the lease in favour of the company, and the board therefore decided to execute the lease. The local bodies’ protest is generally based on opposition to peaceful penetration by Asiatics.
