By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston. N., Nov. 5.

At the inquest concerning the death of Samuel Bambery, a lorry driver, who was killed at a railway crossing near BaineJse last Thursday, Mrs. Leach, who witnessed the accident, stated that the lorry driver did not seem to be aware that the train was so close when he drove over the crossing. She knew Bambery w T as blind in his left eye. The driver of the engine, T. Yardley, stated that the driver of the lorry gave no indication that he was about to cross the line. As soon as witness saw the lony making for the crossing he applied the brake and brought the train ■ to a stop within 300 yards. The coroner returned a verdict that Bambery met his death in a collision between the motor lorry he was driving and a train, adding that the accident could only be attributed to the failure of Bambery to take proper, precautions when approaching the crossing. “The crossing problem is a difficult one,” stated the coroner, “the human .element being the deciding factor betwe i safety and danger.
