MOVEMENTS OF WARSHIPS

NAVAL VESSELS BEING REFITTED

PROGRAMME OF EXERCISES.

The future movements of the war vessels of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy were outlined by Commodore" G. Blake of H.M.S. Dunedin yesterday. The Diomede, sister ship to the Dunedin, would return to New Zealand in December after a complete refitting in England. It was hoped to arrange combined exercises with the Australian Division, operating from Hobart. The Dunedin would return to England for her periodic refit thd as Commodore Blake’s appointment was for three years, his flag would be transferred to the Diomede.

After ten years of service all vessels of the Royal Navy underwent an extensive refit and the overhaul at present being undergone by the Diomede was of a similar nature. It was much more extensive than the usual refit, which was carried out in New Zealand. The sloops Veronica and Laburnum were at present at Auckland refitting after the island cruise. The training trawler Wakakura was completing the training of members of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve at Auckland and would later visit southern ports.
