THE CULT OF THE JERSEY

NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB MEETS. PROPOSED SALES CONFERENCE. . . I ■ , A meeting of the committee of the New Plymouth Jersey Cattle Club was held yesterday, when there were present: Messrs. H. B. Sampson (president), A. J. Luxton, E. Griffiths, J. S. Jones, G. H. Bell and W. P. okey'(honorary secretary). The Stratford Jersey Cattle Club invited the club to send delegates to meet representatives from the Hawera, Kaponga and Stratford Jersey Cattle Clubs, together with representatives of auctioneering firms, to arrange dates for the respective club sales. The date suggested was November 11.

The president considered that the club should send delegates to assist in any way possible, but they must first be loyal to their own club. The New Plymouth Club had pioneered “Jersey Week.” If the other clubs wished to have their sales ahead of or after New Plymouth there was nothing to prevent tnem.

The general opinion was that the members of the New Plymouth club would require the whole week for their Jersey female sales, and it was suggested that the other clubs might also be able to arrange a week of sales for their members.

Mr. J. S. Jones pointed out that owing to climatic conditions the northern end of the province was a month ahead of Stratford; consequently it was necessary to hold their bull sales earlier. Messrs. J. S. Jones and A. J. Luxton were appointed delegates' to represent the club.

Mr. G. H. Bell, a member of the New Zealand Council, reported briefly on the business of a special meeting of the council stating that it had been called specially to consider matters arising out of standardisation of cheese, but the decision aiWed at was not yet available for publication.
