A London cablegram reports the death of Captain William Colbeck, a member of Borchgrevinck’s expedition to the Antarctic from Melbourne in 1894. Mr. Arthur Moore (Brisbane), Mr. D. C. Halley (Wellington), Mr. W. D. Wohlmann. (Wellington) and'Miss D. Aitchison (Wellington) are among the guests at the Criterion, New Plymouth.

The death of Lord Brotherton at the age of 74 is reported in a cable from London. He-was for a term Lord Mayor of Leeds and owned extensive chemical manufacturing plants. ■The Taranaki Education Board placed on record its appreciation of the services of the late Mr. A. T. Main, for many years associated with educational matters at Mokoia, and expressing sympathy with his widow and family in their bereavement.

He entered Christ’s College, Cambridge, in 1923, and graduated in 1926 after a brilliant career. He was ordained at Trinity in 1927, with a title to the parish of St. Barnabas, Southampton. 111-health compelled his return to New Zealand last year.
