THE PRISONS OVERCROWDED

INDIAN GOVERNMENT PROBLEM 200 IMPRISONED EACH DAY. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Delhi, October 20. The Bombay Government is faced with the problem of accommodating the 5000 prisoners sentenced for civil disobedience during the last few months. At present there are 200, convictions daily in the Bombay city area, and the gaols are rapidly becoming overcrowded. Even the new concentration camps and temporary gaols are filled. The Government is likely to follow the scheme adopted by the Punjab and Assam Governments and discharge the ordinary convicts for trivial offences to make room for the political offenders. Under the scheme 2000 will be released who have served half their sentence and had /'n exemplary record in gaol.
