The Hon. S. G. Smith, who spent the week-end at New Plymouth, is to return to Wellington this morning.
' Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Bell and Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Linn, New Plymouth, are visiting the Royal Show at Hastings. Air. C. N. Taylor, managing director of the company controlling the Moturoa oil wells, who went to Wellington last Thursday on a business trip, returned on .Saturday. t.
The Rev. T. R. Richards, Wellington, who has been payings a week-end visit to New Plymouth, leaves'•for home this morning. Mr. Richards was formerly minister at Whiteley Methodist Church, New Plymouth.
The death occurred in the Dunedin hospital yesterday, states a Press Association telegram, of the Rev. T. W. Newbold, Methodist minister, who had occupied charges in many centres throughout the Dominion.
A Melbourne cable reports the death of Mr. Bowes Kelly, who was identified with the early development >of the Broken Hill mining fields and the Mount Lyell silver mines in Tasmania. He put £459 in tho first Broken Hill mine many years ago. A few years later it had a capital valuation of £1,250,000.
Guests at the Imperial, New Plymouth, are Mr. G. Fleetwood (Wanganui), Mr. D. C. Butcher (Eketahiina), Mr. R. C. Renzon (Auckland), Mr. P. W. Addis (Auckland), Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Woods (Auckland), Mr. and Airs. D. McClymont (Wanganui), and Mr. N. Holmes (Auckland).
The death occurred in the Opotiki Hospital on Thursday evening of Mr. W. A. Brown, aged 75 years. He had lived in Opotiki for many years, being the first town cler’: of Opotiki. Befo-e that he was for a long period in the employ of the Railway Department, and was stationmaster of Tirau,' Longburn, Putaruru and Stratford.
The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Grace Gubb, aged 88, occurred last week. Born in Devonshire, Mrs. Gubb arrived in New Zealand with her husband 55 years ago in ths ship, Hvdaspes. After a short period in Auckland” Air. and Mrs. Gubb went to Thames, where they resided for 48 years. Mrs. Gubb is survived by three sons, one of whom is Mt. H. Gubb, Eltham.
News has been received of the death at leneriffe of Mr. . Alex. Matheson, son of the late Mr. R. Matheson, an early settler m the Kairangi district, Manawatu, and Mrs. Matheson, New Plymouth, j Prior to his departure tor South Africa in 1901 Mr. Alex. Matheson was a teacher, serving for a time at Hawera.\ He continued teaching in South Africa, where he had gone for Health reasons, and retired last .year. '■. . ' J ■
