K. Hunt, S.M., in the Polici Court and was sentenced, to roui months’ imprisonment, to be followec -t : \; by two years’ probation, and he was of S dered to make restitution of £29 81 - < 7d.
“I have carefully considered this cast and I have received a report from th< probation officer,” said Mr. Hunt . .?< ‘’Every possible thing that could hav< been said in favour of Haynes has beei said, but accused is 29 years old ah 4 is quite old enough to know better . This is an offence that is very prevalent throughout the Dominion. Haynei did not commit this offence, once on twice, but he did it three times, and iJ. the police report is right he drove one ; of the cars many thousands of miles-. He must have drivcn.it morning, noon and night. . .
“In such a case as this I could not possibly extend probation; the probation officer himself does not recommend it. Car conversion in New- Zealand must be stopped.” ■
