The Taranaki County Council has commenced the deviation at Marsh’s Corner on the Junction Road with a view to effecting an improvement at what is considered the most dangerous corner between New Plymouth and Hawera. The spoil from the cutting. is being utilised on the filling at the deviation near the Mangorei dairy factory, thus eliminating another bend and. improving the grade.
An endeavour is to bo made to forni a branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union at Urenui. A branch has been formed at Okoke, and Mrs. WrMit, president of that branch, has arranged for Mrs. W. E. Carter, South Taranaki, to address a meeting of Urenui ladies on Monday afternoon.
Members and friends of the Victoria League are reminded of the annual meeting and at home which is being held in the club room on Monday at 8 p.m. Several well-known artists have kindly conserted to assist in the programme. All those present will be the guests of the retiring council at supper.
Mrs. Keith Rimmer who has spent some years on the Mission field in the Sudan is visiting New Plymouth. Mrs. Rimmer will conduct the service in the Baptist Taber nacle To-morrow morning (Sunday) at ii am, and will address a gathering of the combined Bible Classes in the same place at 3.30 p.m. On Monday, night at 8 o’clock in the St. Andrews Hall, Mrs. Rimmer rill tell the story ’bf Life and Work in the Sudan,' illustrated with many' interesting lantern slides.
The Maori party visiting New Plymouth under the auspices of the Methodist Home Mission Department, conclude their series' of unique entertainments with a concert in the Hurworth Hall tonioht at 8 p.m. and a final concert in fhe Empire Theatre on Monday at 7.40 p.m.- '
