BIG SEWERAGE CONTRACT

FITZROY RETICULATION WORK. CHRISTCHURCH- FIRM CHOSEN. The New Plymouth Borough Council at a special meeting yesterday afternoon accepted the lowest tender, that of' Boyle Bros., Ltd., Christchurch, at £9480 5s 3d for the sewerage reticulation of the Fitzroy district. This is contract No. 8 of the comprehensive eewerage scheme, and the second to be let. The 15 tenderers and the amounts of their tenders in the order of value were: —

The time allowed the contractors is two years, but the contract may be finished, given good progress, in a shorter time. ~ -n It is understood that machinery will be used for a Certain amount of the work. There is, however, over hall of the work unsuited to the employment of machinery and that work will occupy about 30 or 40 men for a long period. The actual number of men employed will depend upon the urgency of the work remaining. The actual conti act involves the trenching and laying of sewers in practically the whole ot Fitzroy. . i. • By the time the Fitzroy contract is half completed the No. 1 contract for the outfall and liquefaction tunnels, etc., should be complete, and a commencement will be made with, connectjn<r immediately those areas already reticulated. There are five more reticulation contracts to be let and it is the council’s intention to let the next m about five and the remainder at six-monthly intervals.
