PROGRESS OF LEGISLATION NUMEROUS BILLS DEALT WITH. DRIVING OF STOCK AT NIGHT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. When the House of Representatives met to-day the Hon. A. J. Murdoch gave notice of his intention to introduce the Slaughtering and Inspection Amendment Bill. The Leader of the Labour Party, Mr. H. E. Holland, was granted three days’ leave of absence on the ground of urgent public business. Amendments to the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal (Washing Up) Bill were introduced by Governor-Gen-eral’s message. The Canterbury Agricultural College Bill and the Native Trustee Bill (both consolidated measures) were similarly introduced and read a first time. The latter- Bill was also read a second time pro forma and referred io the Native Affairs Committee. Explaining the effect of the Arms Amendment Bill, which was introduced by Governor-General’s message, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe stated that it. eliminated the necessity for obtaining a permit to purchase explosives and made it unnecessary to register firearms. The Bill was read a first time.
Tire House agreed to the amendments made by the Legislative Council to the National Art Gallery and the Dominion Museum Bill.
The Statutory Land Charges Registration Amendment Bill was put through committee without amendment. The Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claims Adjustment Bill and the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill were put through committee with amendments. The Apprentices Amendment Bill was reported to • the House with minor amendments submitted by tlie Minister. The Stock Amendment Bill was put through committee, an amendment moved by Mr. W. J. Polson being adopted, granting an additional exception in regard to the rule providing that Mock should be moved only in the daytime. Exception is granted in the case of an owner moving stock from one farm to another in possession of the same owner, the farms to be not more than six miles apart. The following Bills were read a third time and passed:—-The Statutory Land Charges Registration Amendment Bill, the Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claims Adjustment Bill, the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill, the Apprentices Amendment Bill arid the Stock Amendment Bill.
