NEW PLYMOUTH SWIMMING

TARANAKI POLO TEAM DISCUSSED. AMATEUR CLUB MEETING. The desirability of sending a Taranaki representative polo team to the New Zealand championships at Wanganui this season was discussed at a meeting of the New Plymouth Amateur Swimming Club last night. There were present Messrs. M. D. Clarke (chairman), H. Watkins, C. ‘Shaw, T. Godfrey, C. Allen, L. Rea, L. Petty, A. Petty, H. J. Duffin (secretary), Mrs. Gayton, Miss Hartnell. The question of sending a Taranaki team was raised by Mr. H. J. Duffin, who was of the opinion that steps should be taken early in the season by the different clubs to prepare for the competition. He pointed out that the centre would not be able to finance such a scheme and the onus of sending the team was on the clubs. It should be possible to send an efficient representative team from the province. He stressed the necessity for considering the, matterearly in the season, and the clubs should have the object in view from the beginning of their year. The treasurer was instructed to forward the capitation and affiliation fees. It was resolved to hold the opening club night on November 3.
