Fifteen persons, including an Indian magistrate and several forest officials, were killed and over 50 were injuied in a clash between a mob of 5000 rioters and police in the forest of Chirnar, near Panvel, in the Kolaba province of the Bombay presidency. The Congress “war council” of Panvel prevailed on a large number .of foresters to disobey the forest laws and the police arrested five. A large crowd of sympathisers attacked the [folice, killed three forest officials and attempted to rescue the prisoners. The police twice opened fire but failed to quell the disorder, whereupon armed reinforcements were rushed to the scene from Bombay. V
