PROFESSOR’S PENSIONS
ATTITUDE OF THE GOVERNMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Although a deputation from the university colleges waited last month on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Education on the question of superannuation provision for professors, no immediate outcome can be expected. This was indicated in a letter from the Hon. H. Atmore, Minister of Education, received at to-night’s meeting of the Victoria College Council. A report on the subject had been prepared and had been submitted to the Teachers’ Superannuation Board, said the Minister. It had been considered, too, by the Government, and the position was regarded as unsatisfactory. “In view, however, of the present need for a comprehensive review of all superannuation schemes of the Government,” the Minister continued, “and of the fact that a special committee has been set up recently by the Government to investigate the position of these funds, I have to say that I regret that nothing can be done immediately. You may rest assured, however, that the questions raised by the deputation will be fully considered by the special committee and by’the Government with the view to bringing down legislation to remove the anomalies and disabilities under which university professors are at present working.”
