WORKING WHARF CRANES
•WATERSIDERS’ CLAIM REJECTED. JUDGE FINDS FOR HARBOUR BOARD By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Sept. 25, The Arbitration Court to-day gave an opinion on the question of the woijfiiig of the harbour board’s two new electric cranes. The watersiders have prevented the use of these, contending that. they, should be worked by their' Union’ members, whereas the board decided to employ its permanent hands. Air. Justice Frazer stated that, having regard to the intricacy of their construction and the potential danger of mechanics on electie crape?, the boaiff was entitled to decide whether it would employ casual waterside workers oi i-S nprjnapent hands to drive them, and, *. it elected to do the latter, these. wori<ers were exempt from the provisions or the award.
