EGG-LAYING COMPETITION

TWENTY-FIFTH WEEK RESULT. Following is the official report of the Taranaki Egg-laying Society for the week ended September .24 (twenty-fifth week): —

PATEA TENNIS CLUB. YEAR'S ACTIVITIES REVIEWED At the annual meeting of the Pa tea Tennis Club, at w'hich Mr. H. A. Findlay presided, the annual report stated: The year was commenced with a debit balance. of £3B 9s 6d at the bank and the season closed with a deficit of £2 17s 10d, which may be considered quite satisfactory in view of the fact that about £lO was expended on the courts. The membership of 61 is three less than that of last year, whilst the subscriptions show an increase of £l9 4s 6d. During the season some very enjoyable matches were played against Wavcrley, Alton and Hawera Clubs, both A and B teams participating, and resulted in a desire being expressed for a greater nunilier of these matches. At the close of play for the year the courts were kept cut and later fertilised, whilst weeds were treated with sulphate of ammonia, and the back lines resown. Consequently the courts show a marked improvement and should be in firstclass condition for the commencement of play. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr. W. F. Sheild; vice-presi-dents, Mrs. E. C. Whitehead, Messrs W. G. Jones and A. C. Thompson; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. ,G. W. Corbett; honorary auditor, Mr. F. T. Ray; general committee, Messrs Torrens, Findlay, Ray. Robinson, Edwards, and officers ex officio; ladies’ committee, Misses Glenuy, Carey, Hemingway, Bolirke, Roberts, Honeytield and Bosley; delegates to Taranaki Association, Messrs C. B. Webster and A. C. Thompson.
