GENERAL ITEMS. “The Stratford Alountain Club is one of the oldest if not the oldest club of its kind in New Zealand,” said Air. J. C. Robins at Stratford last night. It was , formed 40 years ago by a coterie of men who formed tracks to give access to the plateau and who built the Curtis hut. During the war the club lay dormant but did not lose its identity as a club. “It is with regret that we have to record the death of one of our members, Air. Lance V. Gibson. While we feel that the circumstances are so well known as not to require traversing here, we also’feel that his sacrifice while giving assistance to one of his fellows should not go unrecorded in the’club’s records. The club’s- sympathy goes out to those whom he left behind, and has already been suitably conveyed to them,” stated the report presented on behalf of the executive to the annual meeting of the Stratferd Alountain Club last night. ” ’
