ANGLICAN VETERAN
ARCHDEACON’S RETIREMENT. HALE AT - EIGHTY-FIVE YEARS. Sydney, September 11. With the retirement of Archdeacon Boyce in November there will disappear from the active ranks of the Anglican Church in Sydney one of its most picturesque personalities. In his 86th year, year, he feels, like the well-graced actor, that he does not want to lag superfluous on the stage. If every man could maintain the physical and mental vigour that characterises dear old Archdeacon Boyce, in his 86th year, Voronoff would have t„ forget his monkey gland business, so far as human beings are concerned. The G.Q.M. of Sydney church life is the type of man who persists in remaining young in spirit, even if he is old, chronologically. One of his special interests is temperance reform; another is Empire Day. Each year, with the regularity of clockwork, Sydney is reminded of the approach of Empire Day by Archdeacon Boyce’s letter in the leading morning newspaper, espousing the patriotic cauke. His letter, in fact, is as regular in Its appearance as Archbishop Wright’s annual, but futile, protest against the opening of the Royal Show on Good Friday.
